Pecha Kucha Night Scranton Brings Global Phenomenon to Electric City
7:30 p.m., January 28, 2012, at the Vintage Theater

What's Pecha Kucha? It's the Japanese onomatopoeia for "chit-chat." It's also a kind of rapidfire creative show-and-tell governed by a simple rule: show 20 slides, talk about each one for 20 seconds. When you get a bunch of presenters together with an audience, that's a Pecha Kucha Night. Wired magazine described it this way: "Say what you need to say in six minutes and 40 seconds of exquisitely matched words and images and then sit the hell down." A New Zealand newspaper called it "talking on a tightrope."

Invented by Tokyo architects, Pecha Kucha Nights (say peh-CHA-ku-cha) have been held in more than 450 cities around the globe. Many of these recurring nonprofit events have become pillars of their local creative communities. The Electric City will join their ranks with Pecha Kucha Night Scranton, to be held Jan. 28 at the Vintage Theater downtown.
