1802: George Gray, one of Pennsylvania's signatories to the U.S. Constitution, owned an inn and tavern, gardens, ferry, and farm along the Schuylkill River just below the mouth of West Philadelphia's Mill Creek and a few miles southwest of Philadelphia's old borders.
