The SEO Bookmarklet
Drag the button below to your bookmarks bar. It works three ways:
On Athena — grabs the article text from the CKEditor, title, and subhed, and sends everything to Headline Lab pre-filled.
On a published GovExec network article — reads the headline and body text from the page and sends it to Headline Lab pre-filled.
Anywhere else — opens Headline Lab directly so you can paste text in manually.

How To Install
Show your bookmarks bar if it's hidden — in Chrome: Ctrl+Shift+B (Win) or ⌘+Shift+B (Mac). In Firefox: View → Toolbars → Bookmarks Toolbar.
Drag the red button above into your bookmarks bar. You'll see it appear as "📰 Headline Lab".
That's it. Click it from any page to launch Headline Lab.
Troubleshooting
-
The bookmarklet opens Headline Lab but the text field is empty.
Make sure you're on an Athena post editing page (the URL should contain /athena/post_manager/post/). The bookmarklet reads the Content field via CKEditor — if you click it from a list page or dashboard, there's no content to grab.
-
It only grabbed the title, not the article body.
The CKEditor instance may not have loaded yet. Wait a second after the page finishes loading, then try again. If it still fails,
let me know.
-
Can I see the bookmarklet code?
Yes — right-click the bookmark in your bar → Edit, and the full JavaScript is visible. It's self-contained, runs only in your browser, and sends text only to prefill.php on this server, which immediately hands it to the tool and discards it.
